OUTLINE
An identity drawn from the architect’s line.

Context
OUTLINE is an independent architecture practice known for quiet, precise buildings. After a decade of growth it had outgrown an identity that no longer reflected the rigour of its work.
Challenge
The practice needed a brand that could stand next to its buildings without competing with them — recognisable in a competition submission, a site hoarding and a two-line email signature alike.
Thinking
Architects communicate through drawings before buildings exist. We asked what the practice draws most often, and the answer was the section line: the cut that reveals how a space is really made.
Direction
An identity built on a single construction line that can extend, fold and frame. The wordmark is drawn from it, and so is every layout grid, document and signage system.
Making
We developed the positioning, naming architecture for services, the logotype, a modular grid system, typography, competition-board templates and a motion language for presentations.
System
Every application begins from the same line and the same proportional grid, so the team can produce new material that stays consistent without a designer in the room.
Outcome
The practice now presents a single, coherent voice across bids, publications and its own website, and the system is in daily use by its project teams.
Reflection
The strongest identities often come from inside the organisation. We did not invent a symbol for OUTLINE — we found the one it was already using.
